Dissipative Toroidal Drift Wave

چکیده
The eeects of atomic physics processes such as ionization, charge exchange, and radiation on the linear stability of dissi-pative drift waves are investigated in toroidal geometry both numerically and analytically. edge parameters, overall linear stability is determined by the competition between the destabilizing innuence of ionization and the stabilizing eeect due to the electron temperature gradient. An analytical expression for the linear marginal stability condition, crit e , is derived. The instability is most likely to occur at the extreme edge of tokamaks with a signiicant ionization source and a steep electron density gradient.

New Mechanisms of Minority Ion Cyclotron Current Drive
Minority ion cyclotron current drive is studied by solving the FokkerPlanck equation in toroidal geometry keeping the ∂/∂v‖-term in the quasilinear operator, hereby including the important effects of the finite orbit widths of the tail ions and the wave-induced spatial drift and diffusion. It has previously been found that the trapped ion current and the current carried by passing ions detrappe...

A three-field model to study drift-resistive, low-frequency waves in low-β, non-axisymmetric plasmas [J.L.V. Lewandowski, Phys. Plasmas, 4(11) 4023 (1997)] is used to analyze the effect of the inhomogeneities in the stellarator magnetic field on the fastest (linear) growth rate, γ. Extensive numerical calculations for a toroidal heliac show that not all Fourier components in the representation ...
متن کاملRayleigh Wave in an Initially Stressed Transversely Isotropic Dissipative Half-Space
The governing equations of a transversely isotropic dissipative medium are solved analytically to obtain the surface wave solutions. The appropriate solutions satisfy the required boundary conditions at the stress-free surface to obtain the frequency equation of Rayleigh wave. The numerical values of the non-dimensional speed of Rayleigh wave speed are computed for different values of frequency...
متن کاملZonal Flows and Electromagnetic Drift Wave Turbulence
Detailed computations of tokamak edge turbulence in three dimensional, globally consistent flux tube geometry show an inhibition of the standard scenario in which zonal ExB flows generated by the turbulence should lead to transport barrier formation. It is found by comparison to slab geometry and by analysis of the energetics that the zonal flow energy is depleted by toroidal coupling to the pr...
متن کاملThree-dimensional fluid simulations of a simple magnetized toroidal plasma
Three-dimensional fluid simulations are performed in a simple magnetized toroidal plasma, in which vertical and toroidal magnetic fields create helicoidal magnetic field lines that terminate on the torus vessel. The simulations are carried out in the three-dimensional flux tube that wraps around the torus and are able to describe both interchange and drift-wave dynamics. The presence of differe...
